Vermont Conservation Organizations Applaud Appointment of Danielle Fitzko to Commissioner of Vermont Department of Forest, Parks and Recreation

Montpelier – Vermont Natural Resources Council, Vermont Land Trust, Audubon Vermont, the Nature Conservancy in Vermont, and the Trust for Public Land applaud the Agency of Natural Resources and Governor Scott for appointing Danielle, Danny, Fitzko as Commissioner of the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.

“Danny is an outstanding choice for Commissioner. She has a long track record of leadership at the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation and is a valuable partner to the conservation community and many diverse organizations across the state. She has demonstrated her commitment to maintaining the health of Vermont’s forests and the responsible stewardship of state lands for many years, and we look forward to working with her moving forward,” said Brian Shupe, Executive Director of Vermont Natural Resources Council.

“The Nature Conservancy in Vermont is thrilled to hear of Danny Fitzko’s appointment to Commissioner of Forests, Parks and Recreation,” said Lauren Oates, Director of Policy & Government Relations. “Commissioner Ftizko has been an instrumental player in protecting Vermont’s forests for the myriad benefits they provide both nature and people and is uniquely qualified to take on this leadership role as our forests are under more pressure than ever.”

“Audubon Vermont strongly supports the appointment of Forests, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Fitzko,” said David Mears, Executive Director of Audubon Vermont. “She is a highly qualified professional, with the background and skills necessary to lead the Department at a time when the threats facing our forests, and the birds that depend on them, have never been greater.”

“Trust for Public Land heartily applauds the appointment of Commissioner Fitzko,” said Shelby Semmes, New England Region Vice President. “We look forward to working with her to protect more forestland for climate resiliency, clean water and greater public access for all.”
