VNRC Presents “Vermont is a State I Love…”, an exhibit by Ned Reade, as part of Montpelier Art Walk Tomorrow, June 7th

Join us tomorrow, Friday, June 7th, for a reception at our office (11 Baldwin Street) for artist Ned Reade in conjunction with Montpelier Art Walk. Ned’s exhibit, “Vermont is a State I Love…”, is a collection of watercolors that capture the changing seasons in our landscapes and townscapes, as well as the people working and recreating on these lands. Ned, who lives along the Battenkill River in Arlington will be on-site to discuss the methods and inspiration behind his work.

Two Cool, Free Community Events this Saturday, June 8th: Free Fishing Day & Biodiversity Jamboree

Free Fishing Day: In celebration of World Fish Migration Day and the planned removal of 4 dams along the Brewster River over the next 3 years (which will reconnect most of the corridor for eastern brook trout passage!), join the Lamoille County Conservation District at Smugglers Notch Resort in Jeffersonville. The day includes tours along the river and workshops such as a stream table, macroinvertebrate sampling, e-fishing, fly fishing demos, tying basic knots for fishing lures, and more!

Biodiversity Jamboree: The North Branch Nature Center and the Vermont Center for Ecostudies invite you to join them in Montpelier for this year’s Biodiversity Jamboree! VNRC is a sponsor and will be in attendance as well. This all-day nature festival features 15 different workshops and field outings, live birds, many kids activities, a naturalist-staffed lab tent, a big native plant sale by local nurseries, food, music, and a keynote program.

VNRC Joined Mount Mansfield Union High School Students for a Field Trip on Dam Removal and River Education

Karina Dailey, VNRC’s Restoration Ecologist, recently joined watershed partners and Mount Mansfield Union High School students for a field trip to talk about dam removal and river science. Students learned about the impact dams have on watershed health, economy and our energy portfolio, as well as about different biodiversity that call Vermont’s rivers home, such as lampreys and bald eagles. It was a great day in the field getting to talk with students about Vermont’s environment and share about our work!
