Three Things: A Collaborative Call for Act 250 Reform, Wild & Scenic Film Festival Lineup, and More Opportunities for Action

Three Things: Sharing our joint commentary on Act 250 reform, announcing our 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival lineup, and asking you to take action on two key bills.

Stay informed, connected, and engaged—three things.

A Collaborative Call for Act 250 Reform

VNRC, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, and the Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies recently published a joint commentary calling for collaborative solutions to address Act 250 reform and build needed housing. As three groups who worked for months this past summer and fall to identify consensus recommendations for Act 250 reform – alongside many other stakeholders and the Governor’s Natural Resources Board – we believe the Legislature has an opportunity to modernize Vermont’s land use law to meet the challenges we face today. As the legislative crossover deadline approaches, our organizations are calling for compromise, collaboration, and a continued commitment to solutions that can create a resilient, thriving future for all Vermonters.

Announcing Our 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival Lineup

We are excited to be hosting in-person screenings of our 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival at the Woodstock Town Hall Theatre in Woodstock on April 4, 2024, and at Main Street Landing in Burlington on April 18, 2024. We hope you will join us for an evening of eight inspiring short films about stewardship, recreation and the resilience of our communities and natural areas. Film topics include addressing deforestation to protect wildlife, tackling food security, dam removal and river reconnection, and turning toxic runoff into art – amongst others. Tickets will be available soon!

Two Opportunities for Action: Protecting Our Pollinators and a Climate Superfund

As the legislative crossover deadline approaches – on Friday, March 15th – now is a great time to take a moment and contact your legislators to let them know what issues are important to you! The crossover deadline is the last day for House and Senate committees to move bills out before they are sent to the other chamber. Here are two important opportunities for action:

Tell your Senators: Momentum continues to build around the Vermont Climate Superfund Act, S.259, to hold polluters accountable to help pay for climate resilience investments in Vermont communities. The Senate Judiciary committee took great testimony last week and we anticipate a vote on the bill soon. Please take a moment to let your Senators know you support S.259!

Tell your Representatives: A bill to protect Vermont’s pollinators by banning harmful neonicotinoid pesticides, H.706, was advanced out of House Agriculture, Food Resiliency, and Forestry on a strong 8-2-1 vote. It’s now in House Ways & Means and should head for a full House vote soon. Now is a great time to let your Representatives know you support H.706!
