Shoreland Protections Bill Enacted into Law

Gov. Shumlin June 4 signed H.526, a bill to protect shorelands along Vermont’s lakes and ponds. This important legislation to safeguard water quality and wildlife habitat around the state’s hundreds of lakes has been a top priority for VNRC over the past two years.  The law takes effect July 1, 2014.

“This law is a good step forward, said Kim Greenwood, VNRC’s water program director and staff scientist. “While it won’t undo the damage we’ve done where we’ve built too close to our lakes, it will help safeguard water quality and wildlife habitat for future generations of Vermonters. In the coming years, we’ll be very glad we took this step as a state,” she said.
