Today we were deeply saddened to learn about the death of Paul Bruhn, who led the Preservation Trust of Vermont since 1980 as its first executive director and served on VNRC’s Board from 1992-1998.

“Few individuals have done more to protect and enrich the character of Vermont than Paul. This is a devastating loss for the state,” said Brian Shupe, Executive Director of VNRC. “We’ll deeply miss our partner, mentor, and friend.”

Beyond touching the lives of Vermonters across the state, Bruhn’s tireless work to preserve Vermont’s landscapes, village centers, and historic landmarks has been instrumental to VNRC’s success over the past decades.

Bruhn received the Arthur Gibb Award for Individual Leadership in 2008 from Smart Growth Vermont, which merged with VNRC in 2011.

Many VNRC staff were fortunate to speak with Bruhn just last week, at our 2019 Annual Meeting. We extend condolences to his family and loved ones.
