This year, we’re working to defend Vermont’s climate commitments at a time when we can’t afford to roll back progress. The Global Warming Solutions Act, Climate Superfund Act, and Renewable Energy Standard are all critical climate policies that, together, work to protect Vermonters from the worst impacts of climate change and help people transition to cleaner and more affordable clean energy solutions.
Unfortunately, these policies are under attack from Governor Scott and his allies in the Vermont State House. Throughout this legislative session, we’ll be defending the climate-smart solutions these policies offer. We will work to ensure that Vermonters can access electric vehicle incentives, public transit, heat pumps, weatherization, and solar energy that will help lower monthly energy bills for families, and improve the climate-resilience of our communities.
Specifically, our 2025 climate priorities include:
- No rollbacks to the Global Warming Solutions Act, Climate Superfund Act, and Modernized Renewable Energy Standard
- Updating Efficiency Vermont (S.65) to focus its mission more on reducing climate pollution, allowing it to help more Vermonters afford clean and efficiency solutions like heat pumps and weatherization
- Reauthorizing the Standard Offer Program (S.57) to support distributed and cost-effective development of renewable energy, including opportunities for community solar projects.
With the Trump administration posing significant threats to climate progress at the federal level, states like Vermont need to step up to protect our environment more than ever before. Read more about our climate advocacy work here.
