Climate Action Coordinator

VNRC is seeking a Climate Action Coordinator to help shape public understanding of the value of transitioning to clean energy and reducing fossil fuel consumption. This role will help inspire and advance individual, community, program and policy solutions to climate change – including efforts around efficiency, conservation, renewable energy, transportation, and smart land use practices. Vermont’s Climate Action Plan and state policies like the Global Warming Solutions Act focus on significantly reducing climate pollution, helping communities become more resilient in a warming world, and working toward a just transition to clean energy. This position will support related organizing, communications, coalition building and policy action.

The Climate Action Coordinator also helps manage the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN) – an informal network of all-volunteer community energy committees, partner organizations, and the ActOnClimateVT Coalition. During election years, this position assists VNRC’s partner organization, Vermont Conservation Voters, to help elect climate leaders to the Vermont Legislature and statewide offices.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Commitment to protecting Vermont’s environment and helping make clean energy solutions available to all Vermonters.
  • Interest or experience in building coalitions, including supporting and strengthening grassroots engagement, as well as in working with diverse stakeholders to identify and accomplish shared goals.
  • Attention to detail and proven coordination and collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivation and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Social media, event planning, graphic design, media relations, public speaking/presentation experience is helpful.
  • VNRC is committed to a process of centering equity, environmental justice, diversity, and inclusion in our work through such values as humility and reciprocity, collaboration and power sharing, and integrity and accountability. Applicants should share a commitment to this effort.

VNRC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages applications from candidates whose identities have been historically underrepresented in the environmental movement, including people who identify as Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian or Pacific Islander, or people of color; people from marginalized economic backgrounds; and people living with disabilities. We invite candidates with any combination of academic, professional, and life experience who can demonstrate outstanding ability and commitment to Vermont’s communities.

The Climate Action Coordinator is a full-time, hybrid (remote & in-person) position based at our Montpelier office. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $45,000-$52,000 plus a $20,000 benefits stipend. To apply, email a letter of interest, resume and three references to aconnizzo@vnrc.org. Letters should be addressed to Johanna Miller, Energy and Climate Program Director. We will begin reviewing applications on January 6, 2025, and will accept new applications on a rolling basis until the position is filled – at which time the posting will be taken down.

2025 Mollie Beattie Internship

There’s an exciting opportunity at VNRC this summer for a graduate level student—or a recent graduate with a natural resources or law degree—who intends to pursue a career in environmental science or natural resources policy or law: the 2025 Mollie Beattie Internship. The internship is named in honor of the late Mollie Beattie, a conservationist and Vermonter who served as the first female Director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service from 1991 to 1996. The Mollie Beattie Intern will help coordinate initiatives related to forest and wildlife conservation, land use planning, sustainable community development, water quality, and, if qualified, VNRC’s legal program. The scope of work will be matched with the intern’s experience and interests.

Compensation: The Mollie Beattie Intern will be paid up to $7,000 for approximately 8-10 weeks of work ($17.50 per hour / 40 hours per week).  The typical working schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, but may be adjusted to accommodate the availability of the chosen candidate. While we anticipate that the work of the Mollie Beattie Internship may be performed largely remotely, we believe the most rewarding internship experience includes in-person work alongside our program and policy staff as well as our partners and other stakeholders. Please indicate your availability for in-person work in your letter of interest.

To Apply: Send a resume and letter of interest (addressed to the Mollie Beattie Internship Committee) to aconnizzo@vnrc.org.  We strongly encourage early submissions, but all applications must be received by end of day on Friday, January 17, 2025. Materials sent via other means may not be considered.
