VNRC and our partners at the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN) were privileged to be joined by Senator Sanders and a panel of municipal energy committee leaders on August 25, to discuss local efforts to address the climate crisis and hear about potential federal investments to support this work in Vermont and beyond.

The event featured a panel discussion and Q&A with members of Vermont Town Energy Committees on the federal climate investments in the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill working its way through Congress.
- Take action to support the climate investments in the reconciliation bill! Please encourage your members of Congress to support this legislation – and reach out to friends around the country to ask them to do the same.
- Check out this recent opinion piece from Senator Sanders that was published in the Guardian for an overview of the climate priorities in the reconciliation package.

- Subscribe to VNRC’s Climate Dispatch to stay tuned to developments here in Vermont. The development of the Climate Action Plan by the Vermont Climate Council, update to Vermont’s Comprehensive Energy Plan, and conversations about how to prioritize investments in the State Budget all offer the potential to accelerate climate action at the state level.
As the Senator noted, we have a historic opportunity to help address the climate crisis through securing the passage of this critical legislation that would provide much needed support to local energy transformation efforts. If we all do what we can in the coming weeks to support these efforts, we can meet the moment, and make major progress toward transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels and toward sustainable energy.
