Three Things: Asking you to contact the governor about key environmental bills, hiring a Climate Action Organizer, and celebrating Senator McCormack’s 30+ years of public service.
Stay informed, connected, and engaged—three things.
Many VNRC Priorities Advance the Legislature and Will Soon Head to the Governor
Lawmakers in the State House have made their commitment to our environment and communities abundantly clear this session by advancing a slate of bills to deliver clean energy, mitigate flooding, protect pollinators, build needed housing and make big oil pay for the cost of climate disruption. As these bills will soon be headed to the governor’s desk, so now is the time to call Governor Scott and let him know that you support strong action to help Vermont’s environment and communities adapt and become more resilient to climate change.
The five key bills that you can ask Governor Scott to sign are:
- Modernizing Vermont’s Renewable Energy Standard (H.289)
- Mitigating Flood Impacts & Building Climate Resilience (S.213)
- Banning Harmful Pesticides to Protect Pollinators (H.706)
- Reforming Act 250 to Build Housing & Protect our Natural Resources (H.687)
- Establishing a Climate Superfund to Make Big Oil Pay (S.259)
Join Our Team! VNRC and VCV are Hiring a Climate Action Organizer
Vermont Natural Resources Council and our strategic partner Vermont Conservation Voters are seeking a passionate and dedicated Climate Action Organizer to support our policy, electoral and grassroots campaigns, volunteer management, and outreach. This role will be focused on community and public engagement, grassroots organizing, and campaign management and advancement. The organizer will help build relationships and capacity in communities across Vermont and work to identify and strengthen relationships with other nonprofits, businesses, stakeholders and community leaders that can be effective partners in our mission.
Celebrating Senator McCormack’s 30+ Years of Environmental Leadership
This week’s episode of Vermont Conservation Voters’ Democracy Dispatch podcast is a conversation with Senator Dick McCormack. The Windsor Senator recently announced his retirement from the legislature after more than three decades of service. He reflects on the pressing issues that the state faced in the late 80s and how they have evolved (or not) over time. He shares his inspiration for seeking the appointment to the Senate, his unwavering support for environmental policies, and the importance of Act 250 and its impact on Vermont. McCormack looks back on his work in civil liberties, including his support for civil unions and end-of-life choices, offers advice to his successors, and emphasizes the importance of finding common ground with colleagues, even when there are disagreements.
