On Friday, April 5th, VNRC will host a reception for local artist Susan Bull Riley in conjunction with Montpelier Art Walk. Susan’s exhibit, “Plant Portraiture in Watercolor”, is a collection of paintings that faithfully depict some of Vermont’s most spectacular flora. A native Vermonter and current resident of East Montpelier, Susan will be on-site to discuss the methods and inspiration behind her work.
Susan was attracted to the world of botanical watercolors by the meditative process of setting a plant in front of her and painting it as faithfully as possible. As she writes, “it’s a slow art form that marries precise drawing, beautiful composition, and a willingness to stay seated for what can be an unreasonably long time, racing to capture the leaf or bloom before wilt sets in.” Susan’s work can be seen in galleries around the state, and also online at her website, https://www.susanbullriley.com/.
Doors will be open to the public from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served while supplies last. Additional visiting hours for Susan’s exhibit can be found here, or by appointment. Contact Alex Connizzo at aconnizzo@vnrc.org for more information.
