Three Things: Citizen Advocacy Makes a Difference

Three things: the Vermont Citizen Advisory Committee has released a new plan to support Lake Champlain; Transportation for Vermonters hosted a coffee and lobby day at the State House; and we’re hoping you’re the future winner of an artisanal cutting board!

Stay informed, connected, and engaged—three things.

New Action Plan Released to Support Lake Champlain

A new action plan has been released to support Lake Champlain! The Vermont Citizen Advisory Committee has called on the State of Vermont to make urgent investments to restore Lake Champlain, increase resilience within its watershed, and assure that communities in its watershed thrive. The Committee has identified five top priorities: managing aquatic invasive species, improving equitable public access, increasing infrastructure for climate resilience, supporting farmers, and mitigating pollution from contaminants.

At VNRC, we have been participating in these priority areas through legislative policy, restoration work, and advocacy for water resources and the Lake Champlain Basin. We applaud the committee on this action plan.

Transportation for Vermonters (T4VT) Hosts Lobby Day at the State House

Transportation for Vermonters (T4VT) met at the State House yesterday for a Coffee & Lobby Day, to speak to Vermont’s elected officials on why we need a transportation system that is safe, accessible, and sustainable. The T4VT Coffee & Lobby Day was a great opportunity for Vermonters to share transportation stories and priorities with legislators. T4VT provided training and resources, and members – including VNRC’s Sustainable Communities Program Director Kati Gallagher – presented their policy priorities to the House Committee on Transportation.

T4VT is a cross-sector coalition committed to working together to achieve a sustainable, accessible transportation system for our rural state, and is coordinated by VNRC’s Sustainable Communities program.
