VNRC was very sad to learn this week about the passing of Mark Schroeder of Belvidere, VT and, more recently, South Burlington. Mark wore many different hats in life, and worked as a farmer and planner both in Vermont and in Nepal. At VNRC, he volunteered for many years as our Board Treasurer, and, with a total of 16 years under his belt, served on VNRC’s board on separate occasions for more years than any other board member in our 60 year history. While on VNRC’s board, Mark worked closely with our finance committee to completely revamp our financial practices, and we know Mark played a big role in helping us be on the solid footing we are on today.
Mark’s agricultural and land use knowledge also helped VNRC navigate some challenging times. He understood the nuances with Act 250, and worked hard to champion family farms. Mark also had a fantastic sense of humor, and was a very kind and generous person. We are so grateful that we were able to have Mark in our VNRC family for these past 40 plus years as a board member, generous donor, and friend.
