Election Day is a Nov. 8th: Just a Week Away!

Election Day is November 8 — next Tuesday — and every vote matters! Make sure you have a plan to vote, if you haven’t already (there’s been a huge turnout of early voters in Vermont this year!). It’s not recommended that you mail in ballots this late in the game, but you can still fill yours in, drop it in a ballot box at your local polling place, or bring it with you on election day. Or, vote at the polls on Nov. 8th.

It’s Dam Important
As of October 1st, the health and function of North Breton Brook in Castleton, VT has been remarkably improved through the removal of the Pelletier Dam. The dam, along with 15,000 cubic yards of sediment, was removed from the stream bed, reconnecting the river to its natural path and flow, leading to restored trout and riparian habitats. VNRC led this effort and worked closely with many invaluable partners; you can read more about it here.
Last week at a press conference, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) highlighted the importance of dam removal in Vermont. ANR Secretary Julie Moore was joined by Karina Dailey, restoration ecologist with VNRC, Todd Menees, Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) River Management Engineer, Will Eldridge, Department of Fish and Wildlife Aquatic Habitat Biologist, along with other river partners, to discuss recent dam removal projects in the Rutland area. You’re Invited to the Green Up Vermont Endowment Kick-off Gala on Nov. 12
Green Up Vermont is an integral part of the Vermont brand and our way of life — the last Green Up Day had over 14,0000 volunteers pick up over 500 tons of roadside and waterway litter in one day! Green Up Vermont is creating an endowment that will support the operational expenses in perpetuity and allow them to grow their educational efforts for reducing waste, better recycling, and a year-round litter clean-up state-of-mind in Vermont. By raising $1.5 million to invest in an endowment plan, they will be able to leave a legacy for Vermont to remain clean and cared for, along with an instilled mindset of doing good in Vermont communities.
Green Up Vermont is having a kick off gala in honor of this endowment, and you’re invited! Registration is free, and there will be great food and a cash bar, fun people, a silent auction and a live band to celebrate Green Up Day’s future.
