We’re living through scary, unprecedented times. But the federal government’s overreach doesn’t change the fact that the real power resides in each of us to shape our communities and our state as we see fit. This week, local energy leaders from several communities across Vermont joined us in Montpelier to speak with legislators about the successes and challenges of working locally, and to ask legislators to protect the fundamental climate legislation that empowers municipalities to govern their energy futures.
Today’s Episode
In today’s episode, we speak with energy committee leaders Linda Gray (Norwich) and Bill Chidsey (Hardwick) about their work to transform Vermont’s energy system at the local level. Linda and Bill speak to the progress and roadblocks to local implementation, and how rollbacks on climate action will make their towns, and countless other communities across Vermont, less energy independent, affordable, and resilient in the face of a warming world.
Calls to Action: Two Things!
We have two actions you can take this week to make a difference:
- Earth Day is coming up on Tuesday, April 22nd. Join us at the State House in Montpelier from 11:00 am-2:00 pm for a rally and day of action to call on legislators to protect our planet!
- All across the country, climate leaders are looking to Vermont as we persist on our climate commitments, hold big oil accountable, and stand up to the Trump Administration. Join us for a webinar on April 23rd at 12:00 pm to get an update on the status of the Climate Superfund Act and an independent endeavor co-led by the Agency of Natural Resources and Vermont State Treasurer to develop a Resilience Implementation Strategy. Don’t miss this overview with VPIRG’s Ben Edgerly Walsh, Marian Wolz from the Climate Action Office, and Ashlynn Doyon from the Treasurer’s Office. Please register and help spread the word!
Thank you for ALL you do!
