Throughout April, the Vermont Climate Council hosted listening sessions across the state to hear feedback from you on the updated draft of the Climate Action Plan, and Vermonters spoke out in numbers. Hundreds, including many of you, attended from all corners of the state to reinforce the need for climate action in Vermont, a speedy transition away from fossil fuels, and a resilient, renewable energy economy that works for all Vermonters.
If you’re interested in seeing the concerns raised by your fellow Vermonters in the process, you can review the full written comment record here. For more information on key actions we’re supporting, find our priorities here.
Today’s Episode
Today we are joined by our own Evelyn Seidner, who speaks about the overwhelming sentiment we’ve long heard – and what was made loud and clear in recent public events – that the Vermont Climate Council has an obligation and an opportunity to craft a plan that meets the letter of the law and the moment. She discusses the value of the input sessions, explains where the Climate Action Plan goes from here, and highlights the action steps we must take to meet the emissions reduction benchmarks and other important resilience, adaptation, and equity goals outlined in the Global Warming Solutions Act.
Call to Action
It’s the waning days of the legislative session, and things are in flux. We may be reaching out in the next few days with action needs – including a last-minute attempt to retreat on essential funding to implement the Climate Superfund Act – but, in this moment, we just wanted to take a moment to thank you. We are excited for the end of the legislative session, so we can be more focused on community engagement and see you in your communities this summer and fall.
Thank you for ALL you do!
