VNRC Releases a New Subdivision Trends Report and the Forest Fragmentation Action Plan
VNRC continues to make the connection between incremental subdivision and forest fragmentation in Vermont. After publishing a study in 2010 of subdivision trends in eight communities, VNRC decided to track the issue in fourteen additional towns. The results of this study – which examines subdivision trends, their relationship to zoning and subdivision regulation, as well as Act 250 and the Current Use Program – can be found here.
In May, VNRC also published a Forest Fragmentation Action Plan – a menu of nine priority strategies that, if implemented, can reduce forest fragmentation at the local, regional, and state levels. For each strategy, the plan includes recommended actions that can be taken by local, regional, and state entities to ensure the future of Vermont’s forests. Please download the plan here, review the strategies, and take action!
