Sears Appointed Smart Growth Rep on the Vermont Downtown Development Board
Patricia M Sears, publisher of the Newport Daily Express and resident of Lowell, was recently appointed as the smart growth representative to Vermont’s Downtown Development Board. This board oversees the state’s designation programs, which promote smart growth throughout the state.
“Whether starting community development organizations, supporting age-friendly communities, or riding motorcycles around the state to promote economic development, Trish has shown that she understands the many variables that go into building livable, vibrant communities,” said Kate McCarthy, VNRC’s sustainable communities program director.
In addition to founding the Newport City Renaissance Corporation (NCRC), Newport’s downtown organization (click here for NCRC presentation to 2012 New Partners for Smart Growth), Sears’ work has included communications consulting for international nonprofits, serving as the Vermont state president for AARP, founding rider and host of the “Road Pitch” (Click here for link to Road Pitch: The Movie), and has served on the boards of RuralEdge, and the Community Council for Vermont PBS.
Sears replaces Katie Buckley, who was appointed Commissioner of the Department of Housing and Community Development by Governor Scott.
