Public Access to Enforcement Actions on Polluters

It is important that the public have a right to weigh in on enforcement actions against entities that violate Vermont’s environmental laws. H.258 – being debated in the House – is a modest but an important step in keeping our government transparent. The bill is not a “citizens suit” bill – it simply provides an opportunity for citizens to have a say in enforcement actions. The Burlington Free Press makes a good case for openness in its editorial “Polluter Settlements Must be Open to the Public.” To read the editorial, click here.
