Energy Committees and VECAN

Since 2005, VNRC has worked to start, support and strengthen community energy committees. Now numbering about 100, energy committees have become increasingly pivotal and powerful players making positive change happen in their communities. VNRC co-founded and now serves as the coordinator of the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network, which is the network of energy committees and the organizations, including VNRC, that support them.

VNRC and other VECAN partners work to provide technical, networking and capacity-building support to local energy and climate action groups across Vermont. With tenacity, vision and passion, these grassroots groups are getting things done. From getting solar on schools, to reducing the energy waste — and energy costs — of municipal buildings; from implementing heating efficiency campaigns to promoting transportation options, the work of energy committees is manifesting real results.
