Final Comprehensive Energy Plan Forum
This Thursday, the final in a series of regional energy forums on the state’s Comprehensive Energy Plan (CEP) will take place in Montpelier. If you have not attended a forum yet this fall, please consider coming to the event!
Join us Thursday, November 15, in Montpelier at the National Life cafeteria from 6-9 pm. For direction, click here.
The Montpelier forum is co-sponsored by VNRC, as the coordinator of the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network, in partnership with the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission, Lamoille County Planning Commission and the Northeastern Vermont Development Association.
Here’s the background: The state’s 2011 Comprehensive Energy Plan lays out a goal of meeting 90 percent of Vermont’s energy needs in 2050 from renewable energy resources. The CEP outlines nearly 250 recommendations to do that, serving as a roadmap for saving energy, boosting production from local, renewable energy resources and realigning our transportation and land use priorities.
To ensure that all Vermonters are aware of the CEP — and working together to help meet its ambitious but essential goal — the Vermont Department of Public Service and Vermont Climate Cabinet have been working with VNRC and partners to host regional forums across Vermont. The goal of each forum has been to:
- Update Vermonters on the progress made over the past year in implementing the Comprehensive Energy Plan. Public Service Department Commissioner Elizabeth Miller and Agency of Natural Resources Secretary Deb Markowitz will provide this update.
- Solicit guidance and input from participants on current and proposed implementation strategies.
- Offer concrete projects that grassroots leaders, key stakeholders, and interested Vermonters can undertake to help achieve the goals of the CEP, such as saving money, generating more renewable energy in Vermont, fostering more transportation choices and more.
Please join us this Thursday! For more information about the CEP or the forums click here or contact: Johanna Miller, VNRC Energy Program Director & VECAN Coordinator at 802-223-2328 ext. 112 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
